Subtags

In my endless quest to turn the code that generates this website into an ever-more indecipherable mess I have added a hierarchy to how the site defines tags. For instance the tag for my cat Easóg is now a child tag of the cats tag. As such any post tagged with Easóg will now appear under the pages for cats even if I don’t tag the post as cats as well, and the cats tag is a child of the new animals tag so all posts tagged Easóg or cats will also show up under there too. Each tag page also shows its parent tag and any child tags. The site’s RSS feeds will provide the full tag ancestry for each post, so if you are, for example, blacklisting a tag in your feed reader then it should catch any posts with that tag’s child tags applied to it as well.

Consequently I’ve gone back through old posts and trimmed a lot of tags that are now redundant, which should reduce tag clutter under posts, and added tags to other posts where I felt they would be appropriate. I might rearrange how they’re organised a bit more but I think the system in general is working okay now.

The full set of tags can be seen on the tags page.
