Kaiba Deck: The Revenge

I mentioned in my post about playing Magic: The Gathering that I was working on a revised version of my Seto Kaiba deck. I have now played a game with that revised deck and I’ll write up a post about that soon, but first I just want to make a small post on the changes I’ve made.

Sivitri, Dragon Master has replaced Dromar, the Banisher as commander, requiring the removal off all ☀️ cards and in comparison to the previous version I’ve taken out cards that require searching an opponent’s deck, as I don’t feel very comfortable spending time doing that as a new player when I won’t really know what to pick a lot of the time.

With the new cards I have tried to double down on a few of the themes of the original deck: Instants, counter spells and sorceries with foretell to mimic trap cards and making treasure tokens, though probably not really enough enough to make it a main part of the deck’s strategy.

I, of course, also made a few more custom card proxies:

For the treasure token stuff I am not so much representing the cards in Kaiba’s deck so much as part of himself, so I’ve used a still from the show here instead of card art to represent Revel in Riches.
And similarly for Collector’s Vault.
I enjoyed evil Mokuba from season zero so I wanted to include him as well so here is an illustration by Judgedarts for Rev, Tithe Extractor
Pot of Greed as Divination, which allows one to draw two cards from one’s deck and add them to one’s hand.
It was pointed out to me that Quick Study is basically the same as Divination, allowing the draw of two cards from the deck, but better as it’s an instant, so I also added that to my deck. Represented by Pot of Acquisitiveness.
And finally, because the loss of ☀️ meant that I could no longer include Damn in my deck, I altered my original proxy to Damnation.
