Ring: The Final Chapter (1999) — Episodes 8 & 9 and amusement attractions

In which Caoimhe rambles about maths for five minutes.

Loop (1998)

Don’t worry we will only be going through this one once. No one has ever wanted to make an adaptation of Loop. Well, except for maybe that Dreamcast game.

Finally, Sadako will show up tonight! And trap you in her scary tower full of patrolling Metal Gear Solid onis.

Spiral (1998), Spiral (1999)

The Ring movie took a lot of liberties with the source material. Spiral is quite faithful, which makes it a terrible sequel to Ring. The two were released on the same day, making the mismatch even more obvious. It was retconned by Ring 2 within a year.

Ring: The Final Chapter (1999) — Episodes 4 & 5 and pachinko

Jen and Caoimhe learn about quasi-legal gambling.

Spiral (1995) and Tallest Sadako

We spiral into madness.

The first film adaptation of Ring was a 1995 TV movie, followed by a manga and radio drama in 1996, the latter of which destroys Caoimhe.

Ring: The Final Chapter (1999) — Episode 1

Jen finally understands why Caoimhe got obsessed with this series as she is floored by the twist at the end of the first episode of Ring: The Final Chapter, a TV show made in 1999 to cash in on the success of the movie.

Ring (1991)

Ring by Koji Suzuki was the start of it all, and it has a lot that was cut out from more famous adaptation. Mostly for good reason.

The Ring: Terror’s Realm (2000) — Part 2

We finally find the ring from The Ring‼

The Ring: Terror’s Realm (2000) — Part 1

The first Ring media released in North America was a Resident Evil clone for the Dreamcast about a woman getting stuck in a V.R. game on her first day of working for the C.D.C.

Ring 2 (1999)

Ring 2 tried to capture the atmosphere of the first film, but it flounders and starts to go in strange directions. We talk through this sequel that doesn’t quite work.

Ring (1998)

The Ring was pretty big back in 2002, but it’s based on a Japanese movie of the same name. Or maybe it’s just Ring. Or maybe it’s *sigh* Ringu. Whatever you want to call it it’s a good film and a good place to start a podcast.
